SkyDrive finally brings selective folder syncing to desktop client

Skydrive finally gets a useful feature on the desktop client, Selective Sync. Here’s a description from Paul Thurrott

In the original versions of the SkyDrive application, sync was all or nothing. This was fine for those of us with 7 GB of SkyDrive storage, but if you paid extra for that storage, as I have, you couldn’t really use the space effectively and still sync, because you had to sync everything. Not anymore: Now there’s a new Choose folders tab in SkyDrive Settings (in the desktop application) that lets you choose which folders to sync to that PC.

I like Skydrive, its got a great client for the Surface (if you ignore the lack of desktop client which would be much more useful), the storage options are really cheap and now I have the extra 100gb free, which gives my account a 225gb limit, so I better start doing something with it!

The main feature it lacks is the auto image uploader that Dropbox has, this works superbly on Android, where it can work in the background without issue. When the Windows 8 client for Dropbox finally arrive, I’ve got high hopes it will bring that feature along too (as its really handy when screen shooting across multiple machines!)

PS This feature is also in the updated Mac client too!
